Ragdolls are large, docile cats. They are sweet-faced and should have a muscular build but with an overall impression of elegance and balance.  Most have a medium-long, non-matting coat with a soft texture like rabbit like fur.

They are pointed in colour (like Himalayan or Siamese) and appear in seal, blue, chocolate, apricot and lilac points with or without white markings.

In the past few years we have been experimenting with tortie's and bi-colours to add even more variety to our cats.

About Us

Hi there! Welcome to Dandy Ragdolls

My name is Sandy and our cattery is located in Dandenong, about 30kms from Melbourne in Australia. I am a registered pedigree cat breeder with the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and have been breeding kittens for the past eight years.

The first time I saw Ragdoll cats I fell in love with them and knew then I just had to have one. It took a couple of years but in March 2002 we bought my little fluffy kitten (pet-name Coco), I also brought home an older seal point mitted Ragdoll, named Molly, who is a beautiful cat but was no longer a breeder. Molly and Coco settled in well together, in other words they took over the house. Two cats on the bed at night was fun.  I have learnt that whatever you buy for your cats they would rather play with small balls of tinfoil and empty cardboard boxes, elastic bands and paper bags. All you really need is a cat carry bag, a kitty litter tray, a scratching post and a few small toys.

Our first show with Coco was in 2002, even though she won some prizes she didn't really settle down to the cat shows, so after about 6 months we decided that the shows were not for her. By this time it was kitten season and yes ‘the calling’ started. I knew cats called, but not having females before, it was a shock to the system - day and night - the vet could have helped, but I didn't know that then.

So I breed Coco an of course I kept one kitten, a girl called Cherkyia, so now we had three cats on the bed at night.

Cherkyia liked being shown!  She started as a kitten in 2003 and was winning her sections, so we entered her in Royal Melbourne Show 2003 for under seven months and she won her section and also won Best Seal Point Ragdoll!  To win this was unreal; I was a new breeder in town!

In the next few years the house was getting a bit cramped for the cats, so my husband Peter built me a large outdoor cattery, it stands about 6 feet high and 20 feet long with two rooms to play and run around in. They are part garden, with plants, rocks and wood logs and have high climbing places and things to swing on. This is where they are supposed to live.

With help from my sister-in-law Helen we have been successfully showing cats and kittens continuously over the past eight years and have made many friends through these shows.  We had Kitten of the year in 2008 and came second with cat of the year in 2009.

I will never be a large breeder, it is my wish to breed and show cats as a hobby even though I have a registered business and ABN number. I enjoy what I am doing and dearly loved pets; besides the bed isn't big enough for them all now!
